Packing Tips
Do not take more than you can carry, remember you will probably bring home items you purchased or received in Sweden. Pack light and pack smart. (Think about what you really need, not what you might need.) Do not pack electrical items. Converters have not always been dependable. Most of the time you can purchase what you need in Sweden and it will be less expensive than a converter. You can leave it behind for your host family. Girls who need a curling iron or hair dryer should check with their host families. Most likely they have one available. Plan on having all your bags searched. Pack so everything will fit again and not get wrinkled if someone goes through it. Make sure you have all your identifiers on your bags. Flag the bag with bright colored ribbon or scarf. Many suitcases look the same.
Number of Bags
You are encouraged to take 1 checked bag and one carry-on bag. Your checked bag should be your suitcase, which should include your casual clothes and undergarments, a Banquet outfit, swimsuit and lightweight beach towel, gifts for your host player and family, photos and toiletries. You may also want to pack other things you will not need on the flight such as raincoat or umbrella, more toiletries such as face wipes, deodorant, extra inhaler (if needed) and contact solution.
Your carry-on bag should be your soccer bag or a regular carry-on. You should carry on your uniform and practice clothes in case your luggage is lost. This bag should have all of the items you need on the flight including passport, debit or credit card, e-mail addresses, toothbrush and toothpaste, more face wipes, DVSE warm-up (should wearing upon arrival), camera, medications and items for the flight such as books, magazines, cards, MP3 players, etc. You will not need your cell phone in Sweden. Most likely it’s not set up to work overseas. Go to your host family or your coach when you need to call home.
Carry-on Baggage
One carry-on bag, not weighing more than 6kg (13 lbs), total of the 3 dimensions (L+W+H) does not exceed 115cm (45 inches). On all International flights the following objects may be taken on board free of charge, as additional cabin baggage:
1 coat or wrap 1 handbag 1 umbrella or cane 1 small camera 1 pair of binoculars Reasonable amount of reading material
Full details on what is prohibited as a carry-on item in the aircraft cabin to and from the USA can be found on the US Transportation Security website at http://www.tsa.gov/public.
Baggage taken into the cabin of Icelandair aircraft must be placed under the seats in front of them or in overhead the bin. The passenger is responsible for his or her own cabin baggage.
The cabin crew is not required to accommodate large cabin baggage such as framed pictures, due to lack of space and security reasons in cabin.
Checked Baggage
Transatlantic Flights/Piece Concept: (USA to Europe and return) two checked bags, not weighing more than 23kg (50 lbs) each, total of the 3 dimensions (L+W+H) does not exceed 158cm (62 inches).
As a general rule, airline carriers reserve the right to refuse the carriage of more than the free baggage allowance on the same flight as the passenger. It is therefore of great importance that the carrier be advised of all baggage which is in excess of the free allowance in advance in order to allow for special arrangements, such as the booking of necessary space on other aircraft as cargo.
Liability and Claims
If any of your checked baggage is missing or damaged on arrival at your destination airport, please report this to an Icelandair staff member or representative immediately. Any claims must be submitted in writing within seven days. As a carrier’s liability for loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited; passengers are advised to take out private travel insurance. All claims are subject to proven damage.
We would also like to bring your attention to the following:
A passenger shall not include in checked baggage, fragile or perishable items, money, keys, jewelry, electronic equipment, metals, silverware, negotiable instruments, business documents, securities, valuable items, medication, medical documents, passports and other identification documents or samples. Passengers traveling from/to the United States are advised to take note of TSA (the US Transportation Security Administration) restrictions regarding the locking of checked in baggage.
Due to increased security measures for air travel, we wish to alert you to the following changes:
Hand luggage and/or carry on items may not include cutting objects of any blade length or composition, be they metallic or non-metallic, or any other object that may potentially be used as a weapon. Examples of such objects: straight razors, nail files, scissors, box cutters, ice picks, or any other object bearing a sharp edge or point. Needles and syringes are exempt from the above prohibitions if the passenger also has in their possession medication that has a professionally printed label identifying the medication or a manufacturer's name or pharmaceutical label.
You may be required to demonstrate the use of electronic items such as cell phones and laptop computers when passing through airport security.
Please allow ample check in time before your flight. We suggest that you check in no less than 2 hours ahead of time when departing from Europe and 3 hours when departing from the United States for international travel.
Curbside check-in at airports has been eliminated. Likewise, telephone check-in has been eliminated for passengers departing Iceland.
